Sultry Sunday

Whew, it is smokin' hot outside! This afternoon after church, my friend Mary the intern wanted to go for a walk, so we went and walked along the bluff above the Mississippi River, but boy--I don't sweat that much when I run a few miles! It's been in the high 90's, so you can imagine what that feels like with the humidity factor. Today was a really fun day though. I went to church this morning and had a nice time there except that I was asked to teach Primary and speak in sacrament meeting on June 24, but that's okay. Speaking in sacrament meeting here isn't quite as intimidating as speaking in sacrament meeting at home. And, I have a good topic--journal writing. Basically if people didn't keep journals, we wouldn't know very much about history, so that's a good topic for me.

Today when I got home from church, Catharine and Everett were out sitting at a table in the breezeway between my place and the main house, and Everett offered me a Bloody Mary drink. Not my typical post-church drink of choice! I tried to be polite in my decline. Then Everett said, "Sometime y'all oughta come out to the Presbyterian church with us on Sunday. We'd love to have ya there with us." Then Catharine (she and I have discussed my religious identity before) said, "Everett! She's a Mormon. She doesn't need more church!" While I guess you can never have too much church, I think I'll stick to the Mormon faith. :-) The other day one of the Episcopal church leader ladies came to tour Melrose and she invited me to come to church with them too. I feel so religiously popular!

This evening Nathan, Kate, Tim, and I had barbecued some pork chops and watched "Lost." It was super fun! I even whipped up some strawberry shortcake. Well, I didn't actually make the cake, but I bought it, and I did cut up the strawberries. We've decided that we're going to make Sunday dinners a regular thing. They have all of these dishes they want me to try--Kate's jambalaya, Nathan's pork ribs, Kate's chicken creation, etc., etc. Now there are some invitations I surely won't decline!

I think that Catharine and Everett stuck a whole catfish in my freezer, or at least a catfish head because the other day when I went to put something in the freezer, after they had filled it with fish, there was this tupperware container with these tentacle/whisker-looking things poking out underneath the lid. It totally grossed me out, so I have been trying not to look at it or put anything that I use near it. Catfish are great and all, but their little cat whiskers are kind of nasty-looking!
