Crazy Parties and Weather

Last night's party at Routhland was indeed crazy. Thankfully I was gone for most of it, watching "Lost" and eating pizza with Nathan and Kate, but when I returned home at about 10:30 p.m., I was hard pressed to find a parking place! There were cars parked all over the lawn, the driveway, and everywhere else, but luckily I found a little spot to squeeze into. Nathan, Kate, and I had been joking about how I was going to need to check my house before going to bed to make sure that there weren't any drunk people sprawled out on the couch or someplace. It looked like a pretty posh crowd--everyone was wearing suits and ties or dresses. At around 11:30 or so, people started leaving. There were surely a lot of loud drunk people who I could hear walking past my window talking nonsense. Hopefully they made it home all right. Today there are beer boxes piled high all around the house.

As if that wasn't crazy enough, the weather last night was out-of-control! At about 5:30 a.m., I was awakened by some crashing thunder and pouring rain. It was really coming down outside, and I don't ever remember seeing that much lightning all at once. It was really loud until about 6:15 when I was finally able to go back to sleep for a few minutes before getting up for the day. When we arrived at Melrose today, the power had gone out, so the lights were being run by our electric generator outside, but the generator only provides the bare minimum amount of light, so we didn't have lights in the office or back in the slave cabins until about 10:00 today. It's settled down a little bit now, but it's supposed to rain more later. Well, I'm off to work for the afternoon--church would be better, but I'm sure one of these days I'll get to go back.
