Farewell to Athens

Today Greg and I finally finished cleaning the Athens house and officially turned in the keys! Our Athens house was a good one, but it was so damp and cold in there. As we were cleaning we kept finding mold on the walls, the floors, etc., so we're very glad we moved. I will miss Athens though. It is a fun little Midwestern town, and the people there (sans the "mayor") are really nice. It's not a complete farewell to Athens though, because Greg will still be going up there every day, and we'll still go there to visit friends. To celebrate finishing cleaning the house, Greg and I had lunch at our favorite Athens restaurant, the Blue Duck.

I have been meaning to take a picture of the signs along the road going into Athens for a long time, but I just finally got around to it today. They are so funny! All throughout Illinois they have these green signs posted as you enter a town. The signs tell about all of the famous and accomplished people who are from the town. You'll notice if you enlarge this picture that the most famous people in Athens are FFA meat competition judges :-) I will kind of miss the small-town funniness of Athens, but it really is nice to live in the "big city" now.

Speaking of big city, I thought I'd post some pictures of our condo complex. It is called Sycamore Hills, and the condos are so cute! The complex is located on the very north end of town, so it's convenient for Greg to get to work, and it's especially convenient for me to get to work. I actually get to drive to work along old Route 66--how cool is that?!

There are 18 units in the complex. Here is the view of our five-unit block. I like that each of the condos is different and has its own unique character.

Here is the next block of condos. They all look like they're right out of Alexandria, Virginia! The landscaping is really nice too (it's a little hard to tell with the snow splotches). There are trees all over, and the complex is right across from a big open grass field with a wooded hill leading up to another really nice neighborhood.

Here are the end units. There is another block of condos, but the covered parking makes it kind of hard to see them. The people here seem really nice, and my favorite part of our new condo is that it is dry and warm. You can probably kind of tell in the pictures, but it has been really foggy here lately. It looks pretty cool and misty, but it makes me glad that I don't have to drive back and forth to Athens every day--because it makes it a little hard to see. Anyway, Greg and I are looking forward to the second installment of our "24" season premier party tonight! And Happy Birthday to Dad the other day!!! We're sorry that we couldn't be there for your party, but we know you had fun with everyone out there. We love you lots!

Thanks for posting the pictures of Sycamore Hills. What a cute place! Just think! You didn't even have to move all the way to Alexandria and pay at least three to five times more for such a nice home. We're glad you were able to find such a nice condo and move there. Good luck continuing to settle in. Love, Mom
