The Case of the Runaway Corpse

Yesterday I had cabin fever again, and it was so nice outside that I couldn't resist working in the yard once more. My muscles are telling me today, however, that building a fire pit in the backyard might have been a little much for less than a week after the surgery. But it felt so good to be outside doing something constructive--and don't you think the fire pit looks pretty cool? Greg and I discovered some old bricks buried throughout the yard--and I mean really old bricks. We had been wanting to make a little fire pit where we could roast hot dogs and marshmallows this summer, so I just decided to do it yesterday. We need to plant some grass seed in various parts of our yard, but things are coming along pretty well out there.

Then yesterday afternoon Greg and I took a little drive to St. Louis to pick up a body at the airport. A number of couples who live here in Athens head to Florida for the winter, and unfortunately one of the men died while he was there. I snapped this picture of the Mississippi from the car when we were heading home. You can kind of see the city if you look below the bridge. We always like a good trip to St. Louis (although it's kind of sad when it involves Greg's work).

As I have been recovering from surgery I have been watching a lot of Perry Mason episodes. One that I watched the other day was called "The Case of the Runaway Corpse" which Greg and I thought was funny--because it sounded like something he might have to deal with sometime, and it's not an alliteration like most Perry Mason episode titles. It could have been "The Case of the Careless Corpse," or the "Culpable Corpse," or the "Criminal Corpse," but I guess that none of those words convey the right idea. Yesterday Greg had a flying corpse, but hopefully he never has a runaway.

Poor BYU was beaten quite badly in the first round of the NCAA tournament today :-( Oh well, there's always next year--and it's still fun to watch the tournament anyway. There are a lot of Illinois fans around here, so we'll see how they do in their game. With BYU out of the tournament, I am now going to root for Clemson. Go Tigers!

So glad you are feeling better! We were in Springfield on Wednesday for Jeff's surgery. They replaced the rod again and did some bone grafting. Ouch! He, too, is very thankful for anesthesia. He's hoping to make it out to the couch today. Lots of pain, but it seems to be getting better each time he has to get up. Are you still coming next weekend? We hope so!
